Privacy policy

Summary: everything happens on your Mac. Postik has no servers, creates no accounts, sends none of your data anywhere and includes no telemetry or analytics. Its only connection is checking whether a new version exists, and you can turn that off.

What data Postik handles and where it lives

Everything is local and in plain text inside your user folder, protected by your macOS account permissions. You can delete it all by removing the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Postik/.

What Postik does not do

• It does not send your data over the network. The only request it makes is the update check described below.
• It does not keep screenshots: the images captured for OCR are processed in memory and discarded; only the chosen anchor text is kept.
• It does not log your activity or usage statistics.
• It does not access the microphone except while you record an audio memo.

System permissions and their exact use

• Screen Recording: capturing the window of the app where you anchor a note, to recognise its text with Vision (Apple’s on-device OCR).
• Accessibility: sending the scroll/click events of “jump to mark”, reading window titles, and reading the active tab’s URL in browsers without AppleScript (Firefox and similar).
• Automation (Apple Events): asking the browser for the URL of the active tab.
• Microphone: recording audio memos when you ask for it.

You can revoke any of them in System Settings → Privacy & Security; the corresponding feature turns off and the rest of the app keeps working.

Network connections

• Update check: at launch (at most once a day) and when you choose “Check for updates”, Postik downloads https://postik.sekaibuilder.com/version.json, a small text file with the latest version number. It is an ordinary GET request with no cookies, no identifiers and none of your data; the server only sees what any web visit shows (IP address and macOS version in the user agent). You can turn it off in the menu (“Check for updates at launch”). Postik never downloads or installs anything by itself.
• External links: “Buy me a coffee” and “Send feedback” open your browser on the Postik website; whatever you do there (or on the linked support platform) is governed by that site’s policy.

This website

This site is static: it sets no cookies and uses no analytics. It remembers your language choice in your own browser (local storage) and nothing else. Downloads are served from the location linked on the download button.
